South Carolina Legislative Actions for the 2011-2012 Session

What you need to know

June 22, 2012

Thankfully, this legislative season was quiet on taking our freedoms. Unfortunately, Anti has shifted their focus to city and county - you best be awake, lest your freedoms will be gone.

Clicking on the bill number below will link to the SC Statehouse website and bring up all the details of the bill and its status.

While all of these bills are a threat to individual choice, individual liberty and gross taxation without representation, the ones judged to be the most threatening in terms of anti-backing and representative placation of anti are splashed in red.

See what’s threatening us below, then take action!!!

Please note: bills starting with S originate from the Senate, H originate from the House

Smoking Bans:

S-219: Ban in private offices, lounges and outdoor property of schools

Sponsors: Jackson

Comment:

H-3015: Ban in bars, restaurants, lounges and recreational facilities.

Sponsors: Hosey

H-3022: Ban in bars, restaurants, lounges and recreational facilities.

Sponsors: McEachern

H-3033: Ban in bars, restaurants, lounges and recreational facilities.

Sponsors: Rutheford

Comment: Please note, H3015, 3022 and 3033 are all identical in content - why three separate house members all filed identical bills, I don’t know (maybe they figure three bills looks more impressive than one with three sponsors)

H-3109: Ban smoking everywhere indoors, including the use of E-Cigarettes,

                but exempt private clubs.

Sponsors: Skelton and King

Comment: Including E-Cigs? Skelton is really an asshole! Also, Reps Daning and Toole, whom originally cosponsored this bill, had their names removed. Good for them.

S-292: Ban smoking in vehicles when a child in a child seat of any kind is

                present. Mirrors H-3203

Sponsors: Jackson, Hutto, Fair, Knotts

H-3202: Ban smoking in vehicles when a child in a child seat of any kind is

                present. Mirrors S-292

Sponsors: Brady, Spires, Butler-Garrick, Erickson

Cigarette tax increases:

As of this update, no one has filed a bill to raise the cigarette or any tobacco tax.
